World's biggest football tournament FIFA World Cup will be held again this summer in Brazil. The mega tournament will be watch by over a billion people from all parts of the world. Since 1930 total 20 World Cup Football tournaments have been played and won by eight different countries.

  • The biggest ever attendance for a World Cup match is 199,854 people. It happened for a match between Brazil and Uruguay during the 1950 World Cup.
  • The fastest goal ever scored at a World Cup was knocked in by Turkish superstar Hakan Sukur against South Korea in the year 2002 World Cup. It took him only 11 seconds to score that goal.
  • The maximum number of appearances in world cup matches is 25. It was done by great German footballer Lothar Matthaus.
  • Norman Whiteside was the youngest player to play in the world cup. He was just 17 years, one month and 10 days when he played FIFA World Cup in the 1982.
  • The very first hat-trick in a World Cup match was scored by Bert Patenaude of United States in a match against Paraguay in the 1930 World Cup.
  • Brazil is the country to have appeared for every finals tournament. They have appeared for the last 19 tournaments, won five of them. They will be again appearing in the World Cup 2014 as well.
  • Roger Milla who was 42-year-old when he played 1994 FIFA world cup became the oldest goal scorer and the oldest player in World Cup history.
  • Zinedine Zidane, one of the finest player in World football, was the dirtiest player to ever lace up a pair of boots at a World Cup. He picked up four yellows and two red cars in his World Cup journey.
  • Out of the 20 world cups, South America and European countries have won 10 titles each. No other continent has produced a world champion.
  • There is only one player who have played both World Cup Football and World Cup Cricket. He is none other than Sir Viv Richards.
  • Oliver Kahn is the only goalkeeper in the FIFA World Cup history to have won the Golden Ball trophy.
  • Of all countries that have appeared in the FIFA World Cup, Indonesia has played the least number of matches – just one in 1938.
  • Iceland is the country with the smallest population to ever compete at a World Cup, with a population of 334,000.
  • 2014 Brazil World Cup was the first ever World Cup to use goal-line technology.
